The Effectiveness of Breast Cancer Screening in Kenya

In women with a high risk of hereditary breast cancer, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans show that MRI is more sensitive than mammography for detecting breast tumors. The results of a breast MRI scan are usually unusual even if there is no cancer. Multiple breast MRI screening tests in women at high hereditary risk continue.

According to current guidelines, older women, women with critical health conditions, and those at higher risk of breast cancer would all receive better breast cancer screening offers. You can also look for cancer screening in Kenya at jacarandamaternity.co.ke/cervical-cancer.

The updated guidelines state that mammography is still the gold standard for screening and that new technologies must match or exceed their effectiveness to be offered as a tool.

There are many technologies such as breast ultrasound and MRI that, along with mammography, can increase the effectiveness of screening and diagnosis.

However, none of these alone are suitable for breast cancer screening. Ongoing and upcoming clinical trials will allow further research and development of new technologies.

Screening may not help if you have breast cancer that is growing fast or has spread to other areas of your body. In addition, some breast cancers detected by mammograms may never cause symptoms or become serious.

Routine breast cancer screening is recommended for women who have had radiation therapy to the chest, especially at a young age. The benefits and risks of mammography and MRI for these women are unknown. There are no reports of the benefits or risks of breast cancer screening in men.

The effectiveness of each program depends on how often women are screened, adherence to screening advice, and the sophistication of screening studies.
