Use Truffle Salt to Build Versatile Dishes

Truffle salt is a powdery white substance that resembles sand when dry. The word comes from the French term "trise" which means "little stone". A truffle is a fruiting body of a small subterranean ascomycanete fungus, primarily one of the species of the genus Tuber. Other fungi are classed as truffles, including Geopora, Peziza, Lavender, and more than a hundred others. Each species of Tuber belongs to a large family, with the Ascomycanes being the largest, of all the fungi known.

Truffle salt is used in many cooking styles, from salty and savory to sweet and salty. It can be used as an ingredient on its own or combined with other ingredients for dishes that call for such an ingredient. For example, you may find it used in a savory sausage, to make it taste a bit more like prosciutto. The flavor can also be enhanced by using black truffle salt in a blend of cream cheese and eggs, or in a paste with Thyme, Rosemary, and basil. It can be sprinkled over stewed vegetables or mixed with marinara or other sauces for a delicious herb-flavored twist on pasta.

Another way to add this interesting and delightful flavor to your cooking is to add it to the cooking vessel that will be used to cook it. Glass containers with thin walls leave little room for an appreciable amount of dust to settle inside, while metal bowls will not. Pour some into your measuring spoon and add a few teaspoons to your measuring cup. Then add your ingredients to your container, and stir to combine until the dust does not enter the food.

Because truffle salt contains a high concentration of iron, using it on your steak is a smart move. You don't have to cook the steak at high heat just so you can take the tarnish off. If you've ever tried to grill a steak without removing the skin, you know what happens, when the grill marks disappear just as soon as they appear, leaving behind an unappealing brown color that doesn't look like steak at all. Just use your truffle salt on the steak, and you'll restore the color and flavor.

Truffle salt provides another excellent benefit in addition to providing a wonderful flavor in your cooking. In fact, sea salt is often added to stir-fry and other healthy dishes to help retain moisture and nutrients even further. By contrast, cooking in a pan without any additional seasoning will quickly lead to the succulent, stringy, undercooked steak that lacks flavor. With scrambled eggs, the texture and flavor come out almost perfectly. The secret is simply using truffle salt on your cooking efforts and sparingly.

Even though there are a number of ways to season your food, one of the best is to simply start with quality black truffle salt. Unlike many of their counterparts, unrefined sea salts are highly refined and have zero additives or chemicals. This is why they're the ideal choice for scrambled eggs and any other cooking projects that require a rich taste and flavor. For example, you can make mousses for Thanksgiving and breakfast rotis for summer events, but with this variety of salt, the flavor is almost perfect.

Another use for truffle salt is to simply use it as a finishing touch to your favorite dishes. Instead of purchasing expensive ingredients and utilizing high-priced spices to give your dish an impressive sheen, you can simply dust some of this salty treasure on your dish and let your creativity go wild. For example, make a white chocolate fondue by mixing melted chocolate truffles with white chocolate chunks and vanilla essence from a box. If you want to add a little more complexity to this classic dessert, you can also use truffle salt to create different textures like fudge or puddings.

These days, many people have a craving for French food, and with good reason. Spicy pastries, delicate vegetable dishes, and French pastries all fall under this category. Fortunately, you can find affordable French culinary delights in just about every size package imaginable, from large to small. Whether you want to use black truffles to top off an already great meal or build a new menu around this classic flavor, there are many ways to enjoy this salty treat.
